Summary:
The F200exr has the potential to fulfill the needs of both advanced camera users and simple "point and shoot" users. In both cases it is expected to be an exceptional low light performer. The F200exr was designed to perform as well as the current low light king of pocket cameras, the discontinued Fujifilm f20 and f30 series camera. It ends up that it is an exceptional low light performer, about as good as the f20/f30 series. It is not good competion for the best "advanced user" cameras. I could write paragraphs leading up to the questions that need to be answered but I'll assume that you come to this website with the followning questions in mind:
Is this a good low light camera?
Yes it is. Click here to go to the "F30 Vs F200EXR" comparison page of high ISO pictures.
Does this camera easily fit in a shirt pocket?
yes.Does it have the usual set of features expected of a current point and shoot camera?
Yes, including optical image stabalization,a 5x zoom lens and video recording capability (although it does not do HD video)
Is it a relatively fast lens?
No, it is not: f3.3 . The camera to beat these days looks to be the Panasonic dmc-lx3 (or leica equiv.). It is a low noise (larger) pocket camera with a an f2.0 lens.
Does it shoot raw?
No
Does it offer flexible aperture and/or shutter speed controls.
No, it has some but not what is common in an "Advanced user" camera.
F200EXR Vs F30
I along with some help from my niece took some pictures at identical settings using the f30 and f200EXR (in EXR mode) all pictures were taken at ISO 400,800 and 1600. Click Here to view the pictures.
